Neurotoxin (Jeuveau®)

Neurotoxin injections temporarily relax the small facial muscles that cause expression lines, like frown lines and crow’s feet. Ana uses Jeuveau® for the upper and lower face. Results appear gradually over about 3 to 14 days and typically last 3 to 4 months.

Could neurotoxin support mood, too?

Li, Liu & Luo, Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2021

A review of clinical trials found that people who received neurotoxin injections for frown lines reported meaningfully improved mood compared to placebo, with researchers pointing to a few possible reasons, including how relaxing frown muscles may interrupt a feedback loop tied to negative emotion. It is an interesting, emerging area of research, but the authors are clear that findings are preliminary. Larger, longer studies are needed before any conclusions can be drawn, and neurotoxin is not a treatment for depression.

Benefits that go beyond the scale

Gonzalez-Rellan & Drucker, Cell Reports Medicine, 2025

This review found that GLP-1 medications have shown benefits beyond blood sugar and weight, including fewer major cardiovascular events, slower progression of chronic kidney disease, improved heart failure symptoms, and reduced sleep apnea and joint pain, in some cases regardless of how much weight was lost. The authors note the exact mechanisms are still being studied.

GLP-1 and fertility

Becker et al., JBRA Assisted Reproduction, 2026

This review of 47 studies found that, for women with PCOS trying to conceive, GLP-1 medications combined with metformin were linked to higher pregnancy and ovulation rates than metformin alone. Importantly, the authors note these medications are not safe during pregnancy and should be stopped several weeks before trying to conceive, a timeline your provider can plan with you.
